I am reading baby sleep guide books and lots of internet resources and I understand that you can’t expect a nap routine from a newborn, but we had a wonderful nap routine the past week. I got spoiled with the predictability and even had moments of twiddling my thumbs waiting for the baby to wake up and need me.
Now she is fighting sleep all day long. It started yesterday and has continued to today. I follow her sleep cues and try to put her down in her crib when she yawns and rubs her eyes, which has been consistently happening 2 hours after she wakes up in the morning. But she fights it. I then try taking her for a stroller walk, which usually knocks her out, and she fights sleep still. I carry her around the house in the baby carrier, put her in the swing… Nothing puts her to sleep and everything I try escalates her grumpiness from being overtired. Yesterday she made it from 8am until 3:30pm before finally passing out on me after a good cry. Today she finally succumbed to sleep while nursing but promptly woke up when I took her vice away. So much for my goal to have her fall asleep AFTER being soothed by nursing or cuddling, not during.
Oh well, she’s a newborn. I can only keep trying so when she is ready for independent, scheduled naps, they won’t be such a shock to her system.
In other news, we got a new kitten. He is a rescue, and just like the cat who just passed away, this one has herpes. It is really hard to find a healthy rescue cat…
His name is Finnigan.
